WEEK 3 NCAA FOOTBALL PICKS FROM YAHOO’S 2016 CHAMPION

Wow, talk about a NCAA football game picking hangover from last season. We are turrible as Charles Barkley would say. Maybe third week’s a charm. What’s that Charles?

Weekly Reminder 1: As always, our strategy for most games (we go with our gut occasionally) is pretty simple: Vegas doesn’t like losing money so we go against the overwhelming trends (e.g. when one team has 80% of the public behind it), which leads to many underdog picks because the public is always in love with favorites. Unfortunately, our strategy also incorporates picking UCLA every week because Mr. Rudin went there. We still won somehow.

Weekly Reminder 2: Some of the games on Yahoo show the spread as “off”, which means a spread has not been assigned. Yahoo makes those games an even line. We won’t be making picks for those in this column. Our picks will appear here in a weekly column on Thursday mornings until season’s end or the time where we realize that our picks have become so putrid that they become embarrassing to post, whichever comes first.

     CONNECTICUT +10.5 at VIRGINIA

82% of people on Yahoo picked Virginia. Vegas does not like losing money.

     OKLAHOMA STATE -13.5 at PITTSBURGH

Beware. We’re violating our Vegas rule because the Pokes are that underrated this season.

     AIR FORCE +24 at MICHIGAN

Air Force bleeds the clock. They’ll lose by double digits but cover the spread.

     KANSAS +7.5 vs. OHIO

Kansas is not good, but more than a touchdown underdog to Ohio?

     UCLA -3 at MEMPHIS

Ugh. The RW rule of UCLA strikes again.

BOSTON COLLEGE +13.5 vs. NOTRE DAME

It’s looking like another good year to bet against Notre Dame.

MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE +10.5 vs. MINNESOTA

86% of people on Yahoo picked Minnesota. Vegas does not like losing money.

    FLORIDA -5 vs. TENNESSEE

Florida is highly underrated too. Get ready for them to start rolling.

     SMU + 19 at TCU

86% of people on Yahoo picked TCU. Vegas does not like losing money. Plus, the 30 for 30 on SMU, Pony Excess, was great.

     BYU +20 at WISCONSIN

80% of people on Yahoo picked Wisconsin. Vegas can’t like losing money, right?

    PURDUE +7.5 at MISSOURI

We could have gone either way on this game but think Purdue losing by a TD sounds about right, so we’ll take that extra 1/2 a point.

     OHIO STATE -30 vs. ARMY

Pissed off Urban Meyer alert.

     TOLEDO -9.5 vs. TULSA

Maybe we like saying “Holy Toledo” too much?

     MISSISSIPPI STATE +7.5 vs. LSU

83% of people on Yahoo picked LSU. The public is going to get hammered this week. Vegas baby.

     WYOMING +14 vs. OREGON

86% of the public on Oregon. This one seems too easy.

LOUISIANA TECH +7 at WESTERN KENTUCKY

78% of people on Yahoo picked Western Kentucky. Vegas doesn’t want to lose on Louisiana Tech back to back weeks, right?

     KENTUCKY +7 at SOUTH CAROLINA

86% of the public is with the Gamecocks. We like Kentucky even without that added incentive.

     VANDERBILT +3.5 at KANSAS STATE

82% of people on Yahoo picked Kansas State. This is the week that we turn everything around!

NEW MEXICO STATE +7 vs. TROY

New Mexico State was one of the few teams not to let us down last week. We’re staying loyal.

    RICE +22.5 at HOUSTON

83% of you are on Houston. Like clockwork.

     ARIZONA STATE+7.5 at TEXAS TECH

81% of the public is on Texas Tech, probably because of how Ryan Gosling their coach is.

   LOUISVILLE +3 vs. CLEMSON

Battle of the overrated contenders. We’ll take the team with its amazing QB from last season still on its team.

      USC -15 vs. TEXAS

Texas got a confidence booster last week. This week? Not so much.

     MISSISSIPPI-3.5 at CALIFORNIA

We’re still not sold on Cal.

SAN DIEGO STATE +9.5 vs. STANFORD

90% of people on Yahoo picked Stanford. Viva Las Vegas baby.

LAST WEEK: 7-17
SEASON:        11-31
