Somehow, despite last week’s horrific picks, I am still #1 in Yahoo Sports’ College Pick’em game for college football picks against the spread. As you are probably now aware, I know far less about college football than one would think and my strategy for most games remains pretty simple: Vegas doesn’t like losing money.
N.C. STATE +11.5 AT NORTH CAROLINA
Too many points for this game.
MISSOURI +8 VS ARKANSAS
85% of the people picking on Yahoo have Arkansas. Vegas does not like losing money.
IOWA -3 VS NEBRASKA
Weird spread. 70% have Nebraska. Vegas knows something that we don’t. Going with the home team here.
WASHINGTON -6 AT WASHINGTON ST.
Washington appears sufficiently recovered from the USC loss. Most people have Washington here, but I’m going to be one of them. Chris Petersen is going to have his team flying around the ball with his team still in the running for the playoff.
TEXAS -3 VS TCU
Everybody knows that Coach Strong is out after this season. This one has a very “win one for the coach” feel. His players are still playing for him.
AIR FORCE +9 VS BOISE STATE
79% of people picking on Yahoo have Boise State. Vegas does not like losing money.
TEXAS TECH +5 VS BAYLOR
Still not taking the school trying to downplay sexual assault.
ARIZONA +2.5 VS ARIZONA
Big rivalry game, and while the sample size is admittedly small, I like the people I know from U of A about 1,000,000% more than those I’ve met from ASU.
VIRGINIA TECH -18.5 VS VIRGINIA
Virginia is bad at football. Unfortunately for them, this is a football competition.
OHIO STATE -6.5 VS MICHIGAN
Despite that I would much rather see Michigan win this game, Ohio State is coming on strong while Michigan is fading. Buckeyes likely wins by double digits here.
GEORGIA TECH +4.5 AT GEORGIA
79% of people picking on Yahoo have Georgia. Vegas does not like losing money.
KENTUCKY +26 AT LOUISVILLE
Louisville has been playing far worse lately than it seems because so much of the focus is on their guaranteed to win the Heisman QB. 25.5 points is far too many.
UCF +10 AT SOUTH FLORIDA
79% of people picking on Yahoo have South Florida. You know the drill.
MIAMI (FL) -15 VS DUKE
Duke has let me down far too many times this season.
IOWA STATE +7.5 VS WEST VIRGINIA
86 % of people picking on Yahoo have West Virginia . . . like clockwork.
MICHIGAN STATE +12.5 AT PENN STATE
One of these teams knowingly employed a man who sexually abused minors on campus. It wasn’t Michigan State.
MINNESOTA +14 AT WISCONSIN
81% of people picking on Yahoo have Wisconsin. Vegas baby, Vegas.
NOTRE DAME +17.5 AT USC
USC isn’t losing this game, but Notre Dame isn’t bad enough to be a 17.5 point dog.
ALABAMA -17 VS AUBURN
Nick Saban knows something that Pete Carroll used to know at USC. You know what boosters like even more than winning? Winning and covering the spread.
MISSISSIPPI -8 VS MISSISSIPPI
The talent disparity in this game is far more than 8 points.
OREGON STATE +3 VS OREGON
This game should be a pick ‘em so I’ll take the field goal.
SOUTH CAROLINA +24 AT CLEMSON
Clemson is far better than South Carolina, but if you’ve ever been to South Carolina, and I have, then you know how much this game means. 24 points is too many for a rivalry like this where neither of the teams is Alabama or Rutgers.
FLORIDA STATE -7 VS FLORIDA
Florida State is starting to play like the preseason polls had them ranked. They walk over Florida in this one.
